This past Monday marked my first week of unemployment. When I woke up on Monday, at first I felt relieved, but then I felt this overwhelming feeling of missing my job. For two years, I worked as part of a team for a company that I loved. I did interview for a new role within our parent company, and I should hear back from them by March 1. My lack of employment doesn’t mean that my week was bad. Actually, I had a really great week! Not having any work obligations or emails past 5:00 meant that I had more time to focus on my Zoom Zumba classes, having more time to read or journal, and that I could finally sit down and work on some of the plans I have.
Through one of my favorite fitness influencers, I started taking these Zumba classes with a woman named Sandry. Her website is a little bit out of date, but she uses Instagram a lot to communicate with customers and to share class information. She’s been teaching Zumba for like 10 or 15 years and has such an amazing energy! Even though I can’t dance for shit, she makes me feel confident that I can just keep moving. Honestly, that’s the most important part of fitness. No matter if you’re not doing something correctly, it’s important that you just keep your body moving. She does Zumba, Zumba Toning, and Functional Training (which is a lot of strength and core work). I do class with her on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, Thursday’s and Friday’s for Zumba Toning and Functional Training. I use Monday for other workouts and sometimes my rest day.
At the same time as Zumba classes, I enrolled myself in Aaptiv’s Winter Bootcamp, which is a lot of strength training, core work, and cardio. I first signed up for Aaptiv two years ago, at the start of my fitness journey, and I’ve never looked back! Sometimes I don’t enjoy certain sessions or moves, but I do my best to modify as I’m going through each activity. Of course, I have moments when I get discouraged and frustrated that my body can’t do what it needs to do, but I just keep moving! Hopefully you can see it, but I shared a video of me in my Zumba session! Weight loss is a war and right now I’m battling feeling trapped in home workouts so this is me, showing up, for both my current and future self. I will note that in this video, I am wearing a skin colored bra underneath my shirt haha. No boob slips here! I didn’t realize until after I recorded. Haha!
I had also mentioned that there were a few projects that I have been working on launching in the coming days and weeks, and I officially have two of them up and running!
- Twitch Stream
- I’ve scheduled two nights each week when I stream: Tuesday’s and Thursdays (10pm EST -12am EST)
- My first game stream is Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which I have linked HERE in case you’re interested in checking out my page. Even if you don’t want to follow now, maybe at least view one of the videos and then share with your channels? I appreciate any support!
- Writer’s Group – through Author’s Guild
- I’m starting a creative writing circle! So far, there are about 15 of us and it’s just a place for creatives to come together and work on new projects, pose questions, and bounce ideas off of one another.
- If you’re interested in joining us, our first meeting is March 1 at 1:00pm EST. Leave a comment below or shoot me an email! I’ll send the intro information.
This week was also the first week of Lent, a time of sacrifice and penance in the Catholic faith. I was kind of sad that I couldn’t go to mass and receive ashes on Wednesday — Ash Wednesday — but I did decide to sacrifice something for the next 40 days. I am giving up desserts and any kinds of sweets as well as limiting the number of times that I can indulge in fast food (nuggies!!) to only twice over the 40 day period. Not only will this help teach me better eating habits, but it will also help me with my weight loss journey. I’m hoping that fewer indulgences in sweets will quickly become a lifestyle for me because I have an ENORMOUS sweet tooth. My birthday is in a few weeks and I am debating what to do about that day. I might make it my one cake cheat day, but I could also work on an alternative plan for the “dessert” course. What are your thoughts? Will you be sacrificing something for Lent?
