The new year arrived faster than I anticipated, and I am completely unprepared now. I haven’t thought of my resolutions, my checkbook is still disorganized, and my work life is not tidied. That’s what happens when life is happening around you, I suppose.
A lot has changed for me, since January 1, 2018. I moved back home from my dream-city, I changed jobs three times, and I ended my relationship of three and a half years. Trying to move past all of that, while continuing to smile and breathe has been a struggle, but I’ve done well so far, with the help of my family and closest friends. 2018 was all about New Haven and keeping other people happy. 2019 is going to be all about me and my happiness! There’s lots of fun planned: new fitness goals, workout activities, recipes to cook, books to read, etc! The possibilities are endless.
While I didn’t formalize my list quite yet, I do have a few personal resolutions to share:
- Start playing the Clarinet (again!!!)
- Drink 8 glasses of water/day
- Meditate in the mornings before work
- Go to the gym 4 nights/week
Resolutions don’t need to be these lofty goals that consistently end up leaving you sad and stressed out when December 31 comes back around. Just make a short list of some things you want to try or baby steps towards reaching a specific long term goal.
For instance, my goal is to lose 50 lbs, however, my resolution is not to lose 50 lbs. Instead, my resolutions would be the smaller steps to losing the weight: cooking healthier meals, exercising for 30 minutes 4x/week, drinking more water, etc. You’re still thinking big, but you don’t have an albatross hanging in front of you.
