There are a few Carvel storefronts near my house, but my favorite one has always been the Halls Pond Carvel in West Hempstead. As a child, my grandmother would take us there all the time for ice cream sundaes. I would always get one with pistachio ice cream because it does not have the nuts in it. We would eat ice cream and then ride on the mini-rides they have outside.
Perfection.
Just a medium-sized cup of pure, ice cream deliciousness.
No one else serves the pistachio ice cream sans the pistachios. I actually have a particular ice cream shop for each of my needs:
I go to Baskin Robbins if I find myself hungry for a chocolate and peanut buttery explosion in my mouth. I love the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Sundae.
If I have a hankering for an old-fashioned milk shake, then I would head over to Hildebrandt’s in Williston Park. They are one of those classic, 1920’s type of soda shops.
Maybe I want ice cream and a juicy burger to go with it, then I will go to Friendly’s.
I will only go to Carvel for Pistachio ice cream because it is not as satisfying anyplace else.
